Teach Your Children

One of the most important jobs given to mankind is that of being a parent. Much responsibility is given to both fathers and mothers for raising their children properly. For Christians, it is teaching them about God and His values on living. Parenting, most parents will agree, is a difficult task.

Yet, few people are taught how to be good parents, but there are excellent books on the subject. The best one to read is the Bible. It is God’s code book on love – love towards your God, love towards your neighbor, love towards yourself, love towards your spouse, and love towards your children.

I believe this Bible will help you in your childrearing. But parents must live by it not just teach it. For as most of us know, children learn obedience and respect by observing our good examples and our good intentions everyday.

The video song below I have chosen, with a little tweaking of the lyrics, is being sung by both the parents and the children today.

Crosby,_Stills,_Nash_&_Young_-_Deja_VuTeach Your Children
lyrics – Graham Nash
composer – Graham Nash
sung by – Cosby, Stills and Nash
album – Déjà Vu   (1970)

You who are on the road
Must have a code that you can live by
And so become yourself
Because the past is just a good bye

Teach your children well
Their father’s hell did slowly go by
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picks, the one you’ll know by

Don’t you ever ask them why
If they told you, you would cry
So just look at them and sigh
And know they love you

And you of tender years
Can’t know the fears that your elders grew by
And so please help them with your youth
They seek the truth before they can die

Teach your parents well
Their children’s hell will slowly go by
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picks, the one you’ll know by

Don’t you ever ask them why
If they told you, you would cry
So just look at them and sigh
And know they love you
