Go Light Your World

Earlier today I posted my thoughts about today being All Souls’ Day in the Roman Catholic Church community. I described my beliefs about it. I currently have many family members, friends and neighbors who continue going to this church and who I still very much consider to be Christians – especially if they have professed their faith, hope and love on Jesus Christ.

But I do have questions on the Roman Catholic Church’s insistance on worshipping and observing days for the saints who have departed from us. Almost every day in her calendar is devoted to a saint.

But Christ has given us a commission – to spread the gospel, the goodnews of making and baptizing new disciples. He also said we are to be lights to the world:

You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.
(Mt. 5: 14 – 16)

The song below is Christ’s song to us Christians for us to be lights to the world. We cannot be that light if we have died and departed from this earth. And the Holy Spirit is the fuel (the oil or the wax) that ignites the light for all the world to see. It is the light of Jesus Christ working and moving in us that the world sees.

single – Sounds Of Heaven (1995)

There is a candle in every soul
Some brightly burning, some dark and cold
There is a Spirit who brings a fire
Ignites a candle and makes His home

So carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the helpless, confused and torn
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world
Take your candle, and go light your world

Frustrated brother, see how he’s tried to
Light his own candle some other way
See now your sister, she’s been robbed and lied to
Still holds a candle without a flame

Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the lonely, the tired and worn
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world
Take your candle, and go light your world

Cause we are a family whose hearts are blazing
So let’s raise our candles and light up the sky
Praying to our Father, in the name of Jesus
Make us a beacon in darkest times

Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the helpless, deceived and poor
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world

Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the hepeless, confused and torn
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world
Take your candle, and go light your world
Take your candle, and go light your world
