One of my favorite science fiction films I enjoyed watching when I as a kid is the one entitled: The Day The Earth Stood Still. I am not referring to the newer version of it, but the older version that was released around 1951.
It is about a flying saucer that lands on Earth in the city of Washington, D.C. and where this human-like alien (Klaatu) comes out desiring to speak to the world’s leaders. As he attempts to do this, he gets shot and wounded by a soldier nearby. Well, a smooth, metallic-skinned robot, Gort, comes out of the spaceship and shoots rays at all of the weaponry in the vicinity.
Anyway, to make the story of the film short, Klaatu, who was in the hospital, manages to get back to his spaceship just before the robot begins destroying all mankind on Earth. Klaatu then proceeds to issue a warning that if the people of Earth threaten to spread their violence out into space, “the Earth will be reduced to a burned-out cinder.” Klaatu and the robot then board the flying saucer and leave earth.
I don’t know about you, but this movie reminds me of the Bible reference on how the nations assemble for the battle of Armageddon and begin attacking Jesus Christ after He returns to Earth and gathers the risen saints to begin His kingdom rule. You can read the Bible account in Revelation 16:13-16; Zech. 12:1-9.
There is Biblical symbolism in this movie. For example, Klaatu is Jesus Christ. Gort, the robot, is God. (In German, the word for God is “Gott”). Helen Benson may be Mary Magdalene or one of the disciples like Peter.
What does this have to do with time? What does it have to do with a calendar day? The movie does not address any changes of time that affected the hours of a day or the Earth’s calendar. I believe the movie’s title about an earth day standing still is figurative. It refers to a huge event of tremendous significance in which the world “holds her breath” and seems to stop.
Examples of this I can present are:
1) when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941
2) the Cuban missile crisis in 1962
3) when John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963
4) when terrorists attacked the twin towers in New York City in 1991
These days shook the foundations of the world. The Earth, for a moment, stood still.
But the Bible states that there was an actual day when time on the earth did indeed stand still! It is recorded in the Bible in Joshua, chapter 10:11-13:
“Sun, stand still over Gibeon,
and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.”
So the sun stood still,
and the moon stopped,
till the nation avenged itself on[a] its enemies,
as it is written in the Book of Jashar.
The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.
Did this event actually happen in history? I believe the account is accurate. It is not symbolic or figurative language being used here. The sun did not set for twenty four hours. Some commentators take it to mean approximately a 12 -hour daytime period. What very likely happened is that the rotation of the earth stopped. Remember, especially you who are scientifically-minded, that the sun does not revolve around the earth.
It is amazing that natural catastrophes did not occur on that day. If the Earth were to suddenly stop, there would have been centrifugal forces taking prominence around the globe. But God simultaneously controlled the seas, the tides, the winds and weather patterns so they would not go out of control causing havoc on the planet. How? He may have slowed down the rotation of the atmosphere, oceans, and the Earth at first to prevent any tidal-wave effect, and any heat build-up due to friction from the still-rotating liquid layers of the Earth’s core. And, after this long day was over, the whole process had to start up again.
Anyway, after Christ returns will time change? Will man continue to mark off days, weeks and years as he does today? Will he cease doing this? I do not believe so. I believe there will still be a calendar, but not containing all of the same holidays that are being kept today.
But how about the sun, moon and even the planet earth, will they be traveling their present course or will they move in different patterns after Christ returns? I believe they will continue just as they do now. The only thing that may be different is which holidays and holy days that mankind now keeps will look like – or any will be kept.
The holidays and holy days that mankind now observes may greatly change. And, who knows, there may be a time when the Earth will ” stand still” in order to have a new calendar established. I will explain this later on. So, if there is a calendar, what will this calendar’s days look like?

I have done this for two reasons:
First, the length of the post is much longer than my average post. Rather than divide it into multiple postings, I decided to have them released all together.
Second, I am in need of some financial assistance in upgrading this ministry. This blog website, as you know, is offered to the public freely for their use, and, prayerfully, for God’s use as He sees fit and according to His will. If you have enjoyed and have benefited from this ministry, please help me continue in this cause.
In this eBook, I examined several questions and situations about a future calendar. Here are some of them:
– Will Jesus Christ celebrate His own birthdays when He comes back?
– If He does so, on what day of the year will He celebrate it?
– Will the saints, now spirit beings who will never need sleep, never get tired and never feel hunger, be observing days of feasting and fasting after Christ returns? If so, why?
– Will Jesus Christ, in the future kingdom of God, require everyone to keep Good Friday? Easter? Passover? Pentecost?
All this and more is discussed in this eBook, God’s Future Calendar. I did not put it together in order to be in any way dogmatic. Whether you are a Christian who keeps, for example, the Saturday Sabbath (which I discuss in the book) or goes to church on Sundays either is OK with me. I have written this not to discourage anyone into changing your days for worship. You are to continue worshipping as you are – not change.
Instead, my intent with this book is to open your mind to the possibilities of what may be beyond us after this life. I want you to expand your imagination just a little.
The book is ten chapters in length. About 35 pages. It is equivalent to 10 blog posts in this website.
Please check it out at Amazon.com.
Please note: Regarding this eBook, if you do not agree with Pre-millennialism (which is the doctrine that states that Jesus Christ will come first and then start ruling His Kingdom thereafter), then I do not suggest you obtain this eBook. I have also discussed this briefly in the book.
Thank you in advance for your continuing interest in this blog website and may God bless you.
