It’s My Turn

Music HighwayAs many of us Christians know, it has been about 2,000 years since Jesus Christ ascended into heaven. His disciples were told that He would return very soon (Acts 1:6-11). As of today, He has not returned. Were they told a lie?

You: Did Jesus lie? Didn’t He say He would return to His disciples in their generation? Why did He not come soon as He said?

Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened (Matthew 24:34).

Me: It was not their generation He was talking about. Jesus Christ has not returned sooner because it’s your turn. If you are having difficulty with this passage in Matthew 24, please consult with one or more trustworthy pastors and Bible teachers.

You: What? My turn? Many Christians over the centuries have become disappointed and disillusioned because of His apparent delay in coming back!

Me: I understand, but….

You: Why? Why allow many Christians to lose their faith to other religions because of this?

Me: Because it’s your turn.

You: Why did not Christ come back earlier so many Christians later would not get killed? They were killed for printing and reading, for the first time, the Bible in their own languages rather than Latin. They were burned at the stake, hung on the gallows, tortured because of their deeper understanding and testimony of Jesus. Why?

Me: Because it’s your turn.

You:  (puzzled) You mean you want me to suffer, be persecuted and killed for believing that Christ would soon return?

Me: No, what I am saying is that the reason Christ has not come back sooner is because it is your turn to be born, exist as a person, and receive Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. It’s your turn to carry your cross (Matthew 16:24-25).

You: But, (you  insist) what if Jesus Christ does not return in my lifetime? What if He returns 100, 200 or even 1,000 years from now, then what?

Me: If God’s calling is answered by your children, your grandchildren and even your great- great- grandchildren, then it’s their turn to live for Christ.

You: But…

Me: In the meantime, it’s your turn. It’s your turn to forsake this evil world. It’s your turn to despise its lies, its gods and its hatred.

It’s your turn to not hold on to what this world offers you, but to let go and let God be your guide.

It’s your turn to get to know Jesus Christ, to love Him, to praise Him, to honor Him, and to live for Him.

It’s your turn to listen to Him, receive His Holy Spirit and carry out what He wants you to do. It is really not just for yourself that you live for, but for the salvation that Jesus Christ now offers the world through His death and resurrection.

It’s your turn – not just to live an abundant life – but to live for the sake of the gospel for others.

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).

Despite all the trials and persecutions that may rain on you because of your faith in Jesus Christ, you will not lose your salvation if you keep your trust on Christ and because it’s your turn.

It’s your turn to be the salt and the light of this earth proclaiming that He, Jesus Christ, is The Way, The Truth and The Savior. It’s your turn. It’s your turn.

lyrics – Carole Bayer Sager, Michael Masser
music – Carole Bayer Sager, Michael Masser
sung by – Diana Ross
genre – Pop
side B – Together
album – Definitive Collection (2006)

I can’t cover up my feelings
In the name of love
Or play it safe
For a while that was easy
And if living for myself
Is what I’m guilty of
Go on and sentence me
I’ll still be free

Album

It’s my turn
To see what I can see
I hope you’ll understand
This time’s just for me

Because it’s my turn
To turn and say goodbye
I sure would like to know
That you’re still on my side

Because it’s my turn
For I don’t have all the answers
At least I know
I’ll take my share of chances
Ain’t no use in holding on
When nothing stays the same

So I’ll let it rain
The rain ain’t gonna hurt me
And I’ll let you go
I know it won’t be easy

It’s my turn
With no more room for lies
For years I’ve seen my life
Through someone else’s eyes

But now it’s my turn
To turn and find my way
And if I should get lost
At least I’ll own today

Because it’s my turn
Yes, it’s my turn
And there ain’t no use in holding on
When nothing stays the same

So I’ll let it rain
The rain ain’t gonna hurt me
I’ll let you go
It won’t be easy

It’s my turn
With no more room for lies
For years I’ve seen my life
Through someone else’s eyes

But now it’s my turn
To turn and say goodbye
I sure would like to know
That you’re still on my side

Because it’s my turn
Yes it’s my turn
It’s my turn
