Hear Me Calling, Great Redeemer

Music HighwayOkay, great! You have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, now what? Well, as you already noticed, life goes on. You still have to buy groceries, pay the bills and maintain your health. But people around you, however, do not have any idea of who you are right now.

As time went on in your new journey with Christ, you began to notice animosity springing up against you as you revealed your commitment to Christ. You sensed being ostracized by your “friends,” coworkers and even family.

If it were not for the brethren in the church that you now fellowship, you may have been very alone.  Yes my friend, we Christians are in the world but not a part of it (John 15:19; John 17:14-16). You are a lamb walking among wolves (Matthew 10:16).

Not only that, you also continued experiencing trials in your life. Yes, many of the challenges you have been having in this life will continue coming your way. Even though you are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), you are still living in this dark, fallen world. Yes, you still will go through tough times.

That is why Christian music such as the YouTube video song below are so important and wonderful to sing. As you sing the song, Hear Me Calling, Great Redeemer, you will not help but realize how strongly it is a prayer sung to God.

When you find it difficult to express to God what you are going through at any given time in your life, songs such as this will provide you much comfort and relief. The power of the lyrics will help you through your situation.

You see, many people in the world are without God, without Jesus Christ, and go through similar, if not worse, hardships and trials that you face. Do you remember how you felt going through them before you were a Christian? Of course you do. But the unconverted do not have a song like this to transfer their anguish. They are lost. They do not know God and therefore do not pray to Him, do not study or read about Him, and are not (or they may not yet be aware of) being guided by Him. They turn instead to drugs, alcohol, sex, and escapism in order to cope. Do you remember yourself in that environment?

I thank God for songs of faith such as this one. And I thank Him for providing the gift of a wonderful voice, of composition and of playing the piano to Fernando Ortega for this song: Hear Me Calling, Great Redeemer.

Hear Me Calling, Great Redeemer (1997)
lyrics – Fernando Ortega
music – Fernando Ortega
sung by – Fernando Ortega
genre – Gospel, Christian Contemporary
album – This Bright Hour

As I walk, Lord, Through the valley,
Hold my hand, Hold my trembling hand.
If I stumble by the wayside,
In Your strength help me stand.

The sparks fly upward while the wind blows
Like a spirit, Lost upon the sea.
I am torn, Lord, And born to trouble.
I am blind, I am weak.

Hear me calling, Great Redeemer,
At the foot of Your dark cross
Where You suffered for the sinner,
Bleeding, Dying, For the lost.

Go before me through the valley,
Speak to me, For I know Your voice.
Lead me homeward, Gentle Shepherd,
God of Love, God of Grace.

(Interlude)

Hear me calling, Great Redeemer,
At the foot of Your dark cross
Where You suffered for the sinner,
Bleeding, Dying, For the lost.

Go before me through the valley,
Speak to me, For I know Your voice.
Lead me homeward, Gentle Shepherd,
God of Love, God of Grace.
