Our Daily Bread – October 2016

ODB October 2016Here is this month’s October 2016, promotional commentary of the monthly devotional called Our Daily Bread. This publication has been around for 58 years. It was first published in April 1956.

It includes articles related to the Bible and Christian living, a daily Bible reading, an article about the Bible reading and an insight about the passage. It also gives you scriptures so you can read the entire Bible in one year. In other words, it is a treasure to help you in your daily growth with Jesus Christ, your Savior.

Below is a list of the titles of the daily articles from this month’s (October) booklet. Underneath each are my personal brief thoughts about the article.

Drinkable book

Drinkable book filters

October 8, 2016   The Drinkable Book
The image to your right is about a drinkable book made of filters that are torn out and used to filter impurities of water. This day’s message compares this “book” to the Bible – the book that is also drinkable!

October 9, 2016   United in Christ
This day’s reading remarkably describes some details of several of Christ’s disciples. They all had different personalities and backgrounds that easily could have caused conflict and bickering. Yet, they were most of the time united. How was this possible? You better read this.

October 10, 2016   Doing the Opposite
This day’s devotional is another exposition of a Bible verse. This time it is Colossians 3:3. Again it is important to meditate and research the context of the verse to understand it. This is a way of proper Bible study.

Joshua Chamberlain (1828-1914)

October 11, 2016   Changing Hearts
Luke 6:36 is expounded in the Insight portion of the devotional about being forgiven of business loans as seen in the jubilee year of the Old Covenant Law. Great reading.

October 12, 2016   Warning!
This day’s reading will provide you some ominous  reminders of how even the best of us can act foolishly. Required reading.

Of all the gods that man has made not one of them can answer back (unless deceptively triggered by demon activity) to our requests. Only God chooses the best answer when we call on Him. Read more about this here.

This day’s reading looks into the mind of an atheist as well as into the mind of a believer in God. The difference between each is clearly delineated. Very interesting reading.

According to William Shakespeare:

All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages.
