The Beat Goes On

Music HighwayOver the last few weeks, off and on, I have posted my thoughts about history. I discussed the history of mankind and how it tends to repeat itself. We see nations of the world rise and then decline to its end. We see one war after another, one treaty after another, one dictator come to power after another. All  still continue the same today.

In my previous posts, I also discussed your personal histories. Each one of you has a story to tell about the events in your life that has made you who you are today.

Many of you have nostalgic moments that you wish would never end. Others of you have made mistakes in your life that you regret.

time-clockStill others of you have histories that are carefree yet thoughtless. You now believe you should have stopped once in a while and appreciated what life in your younger days had to offer. Yet, you had no one giving you meaning, no purpose in life was given to you.

Others of you have painful memories of abuse, or loneliness or neglect. You grew up under difficult situations under parents who themselves were struggling to make sense of it all. You have since been dealing with the effects of your upbringing.

In this post, if I can only offer you at this time a few words of comfort, it would be this. You are not alone in how you feel at the moment. Life such as yours has been going on since the dawn of time. And now, the Beat Goes On.

Just as in your life, mankind has searched for love, fulfilling love. Yet many have become disillusioned. You are not alone if you feel the same way. It has been that way for the many since the beginning of time. The Beat Goes On.

Many of you have dreamed big dreams only to see them removed from you over time. Your experiences are not unique. Others have dreamed also and then had to face the realities of life. The Beat Goes On.

Some of you, however, are living lives you never dreamed of. You have set goals, followed through on accomplishments and never gave up. But even here, time marches on. Even here, you realize that it will all one day come to an end. Even here, The Beat Goes On.

Many of you have turned to God. You have read His Word, the Bible. You learned the lessons the Biblical characters have left you. After reading and studying the pages of this Book, life and death go on. Every day many of you come to grips that it may be your last. You may die, I may die, a loved one may pass away. The Beat Goes On.

But life, not death, will always go on. Why? Because God is NEVER ENDING LIFE. But even when you are in step with God, praying to Him, depending on Him, trusting in Him, and He considers you as belonging to Him, this world’s way continues. The beat, His beat, goes on.

About two thousand years ago, The Word, God, became flesh. The promised Messiah came. He grew up, trained some disciples and then suffered, died and returned to God in heaven. Was Jesus Christ’s life and death here on earth the best He could do? He left this world playing its beat that continues to go on.

History continues to be made! Years and years have gone by and there is still hatred in the world. Evil and darkness still prevail over the waters of mankind. There is still much conflict torturing many in this world. The Beat Goes On, my friend. The Beat Goes On. The Beat Goes On.

The Beat Goes On   (1967)
lyrics – Sonny Bony
music – Sonny Bony
sung by – Sonny & Cher
genre – Pop
side B – Love Don’t Come
album – In Case You’re In Love

The beat goes on, the beat goes on
Drums keep pounding
A rhythm to the brain
La de da de de, la de da de da

The Charleston was once the rage, uh huh
History has turned the page, uh huh
The mini skirts the current thing, uh huh
Teenybopper is our newborn king, uh huh

The grocery stores the super mart, uh huh
Little girls still break their hearts, uh huh
And men still keep on marching off to war
Electrically they keep a baseball score

Grandmas sit in chairs and reminisce
Boys keep chasing girls to get a kiss
The cars keep a going faster all the time
Bums still cry, “Hey buddy,
have you got a dime?”
