Que Sera, Sera

Music HighwayThe lyrics of this famous song,  Que Sera, Sera, would be absolutely true IF there were no God. If God did not exist, as many people claim, then life is nothing but hopeless randomness of time and chance – fate.  Whatever events occur during our existence here on earth will be of temporary significance. There would  be nothing to look forward to but eternal death and oblivion.

At the moment, we may recount our personal life history through our genealogical charts and records which depict, to some extent, where we came from and our achievements; but we all have little knowledge, of course, of how exactly it will be for us in our future.

Yet, God has a lot to say of what is to be. He has given us, NOW, glimpses of a future existence and how wonderful it will all be. Yes, God, Creator of the universe and Maker of time, has a wonderful future for all who believe on Him.

Crystal Ball

What is the origin and concept of looking into a crystal ball to see a person’s future? Is it a poor and false imitation of the Bible?

Many of us cannot help but be curious of what our lives will be like down the road. Yet, God has some strategies for you to consider and carry out. The primary thing God wants us to realize is that He knows and sees our beginning to our end. We are therefore to trust Him. He sees perfectly our future. God sees our future in this age and our future in the next age. To seek out mediums, fortune tellers and soothsayers about what will be, without God’s revelation, is not wise.

2 Corinthians 5:7 says that we are to “live by faith, not by sight.” Therefore, you and I are not to live as if all is only according to time and chance.

Yes, of course you should not have to worry about the future and what may or may not happen to you (Matthew 6:25-34), but living a Que Sera, Sera existence is not the best way God wants you to live.  God created you to live here for a purpose which is what really matters.

And blessed are you if He is right now speaking to you. You may right now be sensing something – I believe it is Someone – who can change your life for the good. It just may be God’s voice speaking to you. Follow it. Pick up a Bible and begin reading it.

With this book in hand, you can start reading the book of Proverbs – especially if you are young. Then read the gospel of John. Then ask this God to show you what you need to do next. Ask Him what changes you need to make that will give you hope, peace, and confidence to move forward into your future. These are just a few strategies God has available so you can deal with what lays ahead in your life.

“Que sera, sera”?  No. Your future is great because God exists and He has given you His Son, Jesus Christ, who died on your behalf so that all of your (and my) sins, guilt and shame would be wiped away. That is what is important. And it does not end there. When you follow Him (according to His will), you will continue to live forever and ever with Him, the Maker and the Giver of life.

LYRICS:

When I was just a little girl
I asked my mother
What will I be
Will I be pretty
Will I be rich
Here’s what she said to me

Que sera, sera
Whatever will be, will be
The future’s not ours to see
Que sera, sera
What will be, will be

When I grew up and fell in love
I asked my sweetheart
What lies ahead
Will we have rainbows
Day after day
Here’s what my sweetheart said

Que sera, sera
Whatever will be, will be
The future’s not ours to see
Que sera, sera
What will be, will be

Now I have children of my own
They ask their mother
What will I be
Will I be handsome
Will I be rich
I tell them tenderly

Que sera, sera
Whatever will be, will be
The future’s not ours to see
Que sera, sera
What will be, will be
Que Sera, Sera
