Nothing But Heartaches

Music HighwayWe Christians can readily acknowledge that our journey in this life is filled with challenges, hardships and trials. We also know that Jesus Christ, during our difficult times, desires us to keep our eyes on Him; maintain trust in Him; and patiently stay close to Him in prayer. I am sure many of you Christians would agree with all this.

But one thing I (and perhaps many of you) tend to minimize is the influence of invisible, outside forces described in Ephesians 6:12 where it says:

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

While we are in the world, we are to be aware that many of the evils and attacks against us indirectly, if not directly, come from dark, unseen, spiritual forces around us – the main entity being Satan himself.

Without dismissing our own human nature (inner forces) and accountability, Satan is very much to blame for the wickedness we see in this world. He it was who tempted Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. It was Satan who was behind man’s fall from grace. This is what brought death onto the world’s center stage.

Satan Tempts Jesus

SATAN TEMPTING JESUS CHRIST. Mankind, under constant influence of Satan, has experienced much deception and misery. But the Word of God, through the Holy Spirit (an outside influence), our Helper (John 14:16), will assist us in overcoming.

The world unknowingly embraces Satan’s way of hatred and strife. The world cannot break away from his (Satan’s) power and influence over human nature. It is man’s nature coupled with the attitudes and inspirations from Satan that has brought nothing but suffering to the world.

And as long as man rejects and denies God, man will continue facing needless misery. But God does offer help! To whomever hears His voice and responds, God has a Comforter, the Holy Spirit, provided for him.

Ever wonder why Jesus Christ called Him our “Helper” or “Comforter”? Why didn’t He just mention Him as “the Holy Spirit”? Anyway, it was He who actually was the One who empowered the early believers of Christ (Acts 2:1-4).

With “the Comforter” there is love, joy, peace and other fruit (Gal. 5:22-23) evident in our lives. The benefits of this Holy Spirit are what help us overcome this world just as Christ did. The Holy Spirit is the one we Christians need on this journey. Without Him we cannot break away from Satan who brings nothing but heartaches.

Nothing but heartaches
Ooh, nothing but heartaches
He brings nothing but heartaches
I can’t break away from his arms
I can’t break away from his charms
I can’t break away from his kiss
‘Cause his kiss I shouldn’t miss

Nothing but heartaches

Vinyl 45 rpm

All my life
I needed someone to need me
So I do my very best to please him
But the more and more I care
The more of him other girls share
When I need a hand to hold
That’s the time he leaves me all alone
Just keeps me, keeps me crying myself to sleep

He brings nothing but heartaches
Ooh, nothing but heartaches
But I can’t break away
Oh, no I keep a loving him more each day
Oh, I can’t break away from his arms
I can’t break away from his charms
I can’t break away from his kiss
‘Cause his kiss I shouldn’t miss

Heartaches Supremes album

Album

To him I’m loyal, to him I’m true
Why can’t he be the same way too
But the more my love has grown
The less love he had shown

He makes promises he doesn’t keep
Sometimes I don’t see him all week
Just keeps me, keeps me crying myself to sleep

He brings nothing but heartaches
Ooh, nothing but heartaches
But I can’t break away
Oh, no I keep a loving him more each day
Oh, I can’t break away from his arms
I can’t break away from his charms
I can’t break away from his kiss
‘Cause his kiss I’ll shouldn’t miss

Nothing but heartaches
Ooh, nothing but heartaches
I can’t break away, oh no
Keep a loving him more each day
